Environmental Overview

The Eagles Island Regulatory Planning App brings together key information about five potential paddle-trail landing sites on Eagles Island. From a single interactive map, users can explore property boundaries, aerial imagery, terrain, wetlands, soils, flood conditions, fish-habitat designations and other environmental and regulatory information. Each landing site also includes a short aerial orientation video that shows the site in its larger geographic setting.

The app was developed to help Eagles Island Nature Park, landowners, engineers and regulatory agencies evaluate possible public-access improvements more efficiently. Users can review available field observations, identify property ownership, compare potential walkway routes and examine the sources and limitations of the information displayed. Planning reports can also be prepared for discussions with engineers, environmental professionals and agencies such as the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

By organizing information from multiple government and local sources in one place, the app helps identify opportunities, constraints and unanswered questions early in the planning process. It provides a shared factual foundation for productive conversations about paddle trails, landing facilities, elevated walkways and other potential improvements on Eagles Island.

The Regulatory Planning App is a preliminary planning and screening tool. It does not replace field surveys, engineering design, wetland delineations, title research, permit applications or formal determinations by regulatory agencies. Information shown in the app should be independently verified before it is used for final design, acquisition, permitting or construction.
